Skip the tourist traps,
find the real gems
For a long time, the Canary Islands were developed for, and by, mass tourism. It’s still very much there on the islands, but it’s seriously starting to run out of steam.
Search for an activity in the Canary Islands on Google, and you’ll see: everything is “magical”, “unforgettable”, “breathtaking”. Of course it is: they’re sales pages. Their job is to make you dream, not to inform you.
We lived in the Canary Islands for 5 years. We’ve done the activities we recommend here ourselves, we know the operators personally, and we’ve only kept trips in small groups, far from the mass-tourism crowds. Above all, we tell you about them the way we experienced them, not the way someone wants to sell them to you. We tell you what’s brilliant, but also the little things worth knowing so you can choose with your eyes open.
How does it work? You read our reviews, pick whatever takes your fancy and book directly online through our partners’ booking calendars (GetYourGuide, Fareharbor, etc.). Simple, instant and at the best price.

Discover the most popular activities and excursions in the Canary Islands:
Whether you’re in Lanzarote, Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Fuerteventura or on any of the other Canary Islands, we know a whole range of water sports, active adventures, chilled-out outings and adrenaline rushes. Fancy a buggy ride, a scuba dive, a spin on a jet ski or spotting dolphins from a catamaran? At Crazy Canary, we’re here to help you pick the best experiences and make the right choices.
Choosing the right island!
The Canary Islands are an incredible place for a holiday. And we know what we’re talking about: we’ve spent years sailing from island to island on our 12.5-metre sailboat!
Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria and Tenerife each offer very different activities and experiences! So it’s worth picking your island based on what you want to do during your few days in the Canary Islands. Let us point you in the right direction…
LANZAROTE
Your first step on the Moon
On the island of volcanoes, every day feels like spring.
With its arid, lunar landscapes, Lanzarote has a character all of its own. It’s geared up for tourism, but not too much – just the right balance for an unforgettable holiday. The island has kept its soul, there’s plenty to do culturally and outdoors, and the weather is lovely all year round. On Lanzarote, anything goes!

FUERTEVENTURA
Beaches as far as the eye can see
Just the sky, the sun and the sea…
It’s the second-largest of the Canary Islands, yet home to only around 100,000 people – which is why Fuerteventura’s landscapes feel so wild and desert-like.
Thanks to its lovely climate, it has become a paradise for water-sports fans and anyone who just wants to kick back. Modern resorts have popped up along the coast, while the interior has stayed rugged and untouched. And you’ll love its huge white-sand beaches.

GRAN CANARIA
The island of a thousand landscapes
Five different climates in a two-hour drive… is that even possible?
Gran Canaria is one of the big names in Canary Islands tourism, but don’t be put off by the handful of much-criticised resorts along the coast: the island also hides places, landscapes and genuinely authentic treasures that are well worth discovering.
Drive across it from north to south and you’ll fall for it. You’ll be amazed by how much the climate changes from one spot to the next, which makes for incredibly varied scenery. You have to see it to believe it! Psst – the best things to see in Gran Canaria are on my blog.

TENERIFE
When snow meets hot sand
Where do you think the highest peak in Spain is?
Pico de Teide dominates the island at 3718m and it’s a bit confusing to see the snow from its summit while being quietly with your feet in the water, your skin caressed by the sun. It’s hell and heaven together on the same island! The South is highly developed for mass tourism where there are plenty of activities to do, while the North is still endowed with splendid nature, inhabited by warm and authentic people. Whether you’re looking to get lost in the middle of nowhere, a club-style holiday or a mix of the two, you’re bound to find things to do in Tenerife.

LA GOMERA
Real, authentic
Economy and infrastructure on a human scale.
Taking advantage of a reasonable tourist development, La Gomera is a small quiet and green island. Its steep slopes are a perfect playground for lovers of hiking, or activities related to sport and nature. It’s an island on which you take the time to live, you won’t feel oppressed by the crowds, nature is sometimes unique and preserved as it is for millennia. There are no big hotels here, only bed and breakfasts. Conviviality and tranquility are the key words on this island that could almost be described as paradise.

EL HIERRO
A village on the water
And 100% energy self-sufficient!
Do you dream of a small island lost in the immensity of the Atlantic, with an ecosystem found nowhere else? El Hierro is the place to go!
With only 11,000 inhabitants, it is the least populated island of the Canaries. Its incredible seabed seduces scuba diving enthusiasts and its land will delight nature lovers. It is the perfect place to relax and make unforgettable encounters. Taking a trip to El Hierro is a return to a simple and peaceful life.

LA PALMA
All in relief
Head in the clouds…
The furthest island from the mainland and one of the greenest, La Palma has a very volcanic and rugged landscape, with steep slopes everywhere.
Nature lovers will not be able to remain insensitive to the quality of its incredible landscapes and clear sky, which delights astronomy fans.
Agriculture is the primary source of income for the island, due to high rainfall, particularly in autumn, those who want greenery will be served.
This island is wonderful for those looking for a place off the beaten track.
