- Who can go jet skiing in Lanzarote?
Before you book, let’s make sure you tick all the boxes:
–No licence needed.
-Drivers must be at least 16 years old.
-Passengers: children must be over 8 years old to ride.
–Remember to bring ID (for the driver and passengers): if there’s any doubt about age, it’s the only way to prove the requirements are met. Without it, you may be refused on the day.
-Please note that this activity may not be advisable for anyone with serious back problems, and is not suitable for pregnant women.

- We stay offshore, not right up against the rocks: the ride follows the coast, but always at a safe distance from the shore and rocky areas. As no boat licence is needed for this activity, we stick to open water to keep everyone as safe as possible, whatever their level.
- Photo stops during the ride: several times during the trip, the instructor’s boat stops and asks you to circle around it for photos, which are then offered as an optional (and fairly pricey) extra. That’s normal – it’s part of how the activity works: on a 20, 40 or 60-minute or 2-hour ride, some of the time will be spent on these photos rather than riding. It’s still a good moment – a chance to check out the other riders, have a laugh or swap drivers. Just be aware that it’s not non-stop riding time because of these photo stops.
- Speed is limited by law, not by lack of power: Spanish law caps jet skis at 50 km/h, no exceptions. That’s plenty to get a real thrill and have fun – unless you’ve ridden in non-EU countries, where machines can sometimes go faster. Here, every operator in the Canaries sticks to this limit. So it’s not about poorly maintained kit or a timid operator – it’s the rule for everyone.
- Small groups, but a group pace: rides are in groups of up to 4 people per instructor, which keeps things very personal. But if one rider takes much longer than the others to get comfortable, the instructor may encourage them a bit more firmly to keep up, so the rest of the group gets their thrills too. The activity is open to all levels, beginners included, but you’ll enjoy it more if you like speed and adrenaline rather than a gentle cruise.

Do you need a licence to ride a jet ski in Lanzarote?

How old do you have to be to drive or ride as a passenger?
Children can ride as passengers from age 8 (as long as they can hold on properly behind the adult). To drive a jet ski yourself, the minimum age is 16 (with parental consent for minors). Where do jet ski rides in Lanzarote start from?
Rides mainly start from the resort of Puerto del Carmen or from Costa Teguise. Depending on the length you choose (40 min, 1 hour or 2 hours), your safari will take you along the volcanic coastline, past the wild cliffs of Playa Quemada, or out towards the famous turquoise waters of the Papagayo beaches.
