Beaches to discover:

Playa de Papagayo

is a natural wonder, with its large cove of golden sand framed by rocky cliffs. It’s popular – lots of visitors come for its turquoise water, perfect for swimming – and it’s almost a victim of its own success. But don’t worry: if you want more peace and quiet, the neighbouring beaches such as Playa de la Cera, Playa Mujeres, Playa del Pozo and Playa Caleta del Congrio are calmer alternatives. They’re all in the same nature reserve, with the same spectacular natural setting and fewer crowds.

Famara beach

This vast stretch of sand draws surfers from all over the world thanks to its powerful waves and steady winds. Set at the foot of impressive cliffs, Playa Famara isn’t just a surfers’ paradise – it’s also ideal for long beach walks or simply admiring a stunning sunset over the Atlantic.

Playa Francesa

Only reachable by ferry from Lanzarote, Playa Francesa on La Graciosa is the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle. Its calm, clear water and white sand make it ideal for swimming and snorkelling. It’s a beach where time seems to stand still, giving visitors a peaceful setting to relax and reconnect with nature.

Playa del Risco

is perhaps the most impressive of all and, in my opinion, the most beautiful beach in Lanzarote. You reach it on a one-hour hike from near the village of Ye (for the starting point, click here), on a path with a 355-metre descent leading to a secluded beach at the foot of towering cliffs. Hikers are rewarded with a breathtaking view of an almost deserted beach, where the calm and natural beauty are simply stunning.

Playa Chica

This little gem in Puerto del Carmen is a favourite with divers. The waters around Playa Chica are home to rich marine life, offering exceptional conditions for diving and snorkelling. The beach itself, although smaller than others, stands out for its friendly feel and easy access, making underwater exploration possible even for beginners.

Playa Quemada

Tucked away in a quiet fishing village, Playa Quemada is known for its black sand and peaceful atmosphere. It’s the starting point for the hike to the Secret Garden, a hidden oasis in the middle of the volcanic landscape, with lush vegetation that contrasts strikingly with the surrounding arid terrain.
