Jet Ski in Lanzarote: Prices, Rules and Honest Review
The jet ski is the activity that gets the most questions, and also the one where expectations are most often off. Here are the prices, the rules and what it’s really like, without sugar-coating.
Prices (per jet ski, not per person)
- 20 minutes: €70
- 40 minutes: €120
- 1 hour: €160
- 2 hours: €250
The jet ski seats two: with two on board you halve the price. That’s €35 per person for 20 minutes, €60 for 40 minutes, €80 for 1 hour and €125 for 2 hours.
The rules you need to know
- No boat licence required.
- Drivers from age 16; minors need parental consent.
- Passengers: children must be over 8, as long as they can hold on properly.
- ID is required.
- Groups of up to 4 per instructor.
- Life jacket and a light wetsuit are provided.
What you’ll really be doing
You start from Puerto del Carmen or Costa Teguise. Depending on the option, you ride along the volcanic coast, the Playa Quemada cliffs or the Papagayo beaches. Speed is capped at 50 km/h: it isn’t a racing machine, it’s a supervised ride on the water.
What nobody always tells you
- Photo stops eat into your time: even on the 20-minute ride, part of the session is spent stopped. If you really want to ride, take 40 minutes or more.
- Wind and swell decide: if the sea isn’t right, the ride is cancelled at no cost.
- Photos are optional: nothing is compulsory.
My honest take
For a first jet ski, 40 minutes is the best fun-for-money: enough time to get comfortable and enjoy the coast. 20 minutes is a good taster on a small budget, but you won’t ride as long as you think. 1 hour and 2 hours are for people who really love it. If you want raw speed, this isn’t the activity: here it’s about freedom on the water and the scenery.
