Papagayo Catamaran Trip in Lanzarote: My Honest Review
The catamaran trip to Papagayo is the calm option in my selection. Here’s what to really expect, including what might disappoint.
At a glance
- The boat: the Ocean Lady luxury catamaran, 12 guests maximum, leaving from Puerto Calero marina.
- Times: departures at 9:45 am or 1:45 pm, about 4 hours in total.
- The plan: sail to a Papagayo cove (Los Ajaches) and a long stop at anchor.
- Price: €79 per adult, children aged 0 to 1 free. For 4 adults that’s €316.

- Unlimited water, soft drinks, beer and wine at anchor.
- Snorkelling gear, paddleboards and kayaks.

What I want you to know before booking
- It’s not a party boat: the mood is calm. If you want music and dancing, this isn’t it.
- English isn’t 100% guaranteed: the crew speaks English, Spanish and French, and there’s usually an English-speaking crew member on board, but I can’t promise it on every departure.
- Papagayo about 9 times out of 10: if the sea isn’t suitable, you anchor at another sheltered spot.
- No boarding ramp: you need to be able to step on and off the boat, worth keeping in mind if someone has difficulty walking.
- Weather decides: in bad weather the trip is rescheduled or refunded.
Who it’s for
Couples, families and groups who want a gentle day: swimming, snorkelling, a nice light meal and beautiful coves. Children feel at ease thanks to the slow pace and the suitable equipment.
Who it suits less
People looking for adrenaline or a party atmosphere. In that case, look at the jet ski or the buggy instead.
What to pack
A towel, swimsuit, reef-safe sunscreen and a windproof jacket: it can get chilly at sea even on a sunny day.
What if you want the boat to yourselves?
Private charter starts at €135 per hour, with a 3-hour minimum. Ask me what’s included before comparing with the per-person price: it isn’t the same formula.
