Fuerteventura Buggy Tour from Caleta de Fuste (approx. 3h)

Fancy a buggy tour in Fuerteventura to discover authentic volcanic landscapes on an island full of hidden treasures, following dirt tracks far from the beaches and the crowds?

This is not a race and not about thrills: it’s a sightseeing tour, not a rally. You drive at your own pace, take in the scenery and take your time. The buggy is automatic (just like a car), single or double depending on what you choose, and the tour runs as a small guided convoy.

It’s an adventure open to drivers aged 18+ and passengers from age 4, designed to explore Fuerteventura’s interior, traditional villages and coastline – no off-road driving experience needed.

- Who can go on a buggy tour in Fuerteventura?

Before you book, let’s make sure you tick all the boxes:

-Drivers must be at least 18 years old and hold a valid driving licence (category B).
-Passengers must be at least 4 years old.
-Each buggy has a 200 kg total limit (driver + passenger): if the two of you are over that, you’ll need to book two single buggies.
-This activity is not suitable for pregnant women or drivers under 18.

- What nobody else will tell you:

My aim is to be 100% upfront with you – not to push an activity at all costs, but to make sure you have a great time and don’t come away disappointed. It takes two minutes to read and could save you a letdown: here’s everything you need to know before booking:

  • It’s a sightseeing tour, not a rally: the pace is deliberately moderate, with no chasing speed. The idea is to enjoy the scenery and the drive, not to go fast – and the organiser makes that point themselves.
  • You don’t drive in the Corralejo dunes: when people hear “buggy in Fuerteventura”, they often picture the famous dunes in the north of the island. This tour happens elsewhere: from Caleta de Fuste, through the rural interior (valleys, old Majorero villages) and along the coast, all the way to the Las Salinas salt flats.
  • A real weight limit: each buggy has a 200 kg total limit (driver + passenger). If the two of you are over that, you’ll need to book two single buggies – worth knowing before you choose your option.
  • The briefing is multilingual, but not always in your language: depending on the session, the guide may speak Spanish, English, French, German or Italian. Some travellers mention that the safety briefing tends to lean towards English, so bear that in mind if you’re not comfortable in English.
  • Pick-up yes, drop-off no: hotel pick-up from Caleta de Fuste and Costa de Antigua is included in the price, but the return to your hotel isn’t. Check this when you book so you can plan how to get back.
  • Minor mechanical hiccups can happen: as with any fleet of vehicles rented out outdoors, some travellers occasionally mention checks or short delays linked to buggy maintenance before departure. Nothing dramatic, but good to know so you stay relaxed if the start takes a few extra minutes.
  • Dust, and some kit to bring: the tour is roughly 50% on-road and 50% off-road, on tracks that can get dusty. Wear closed shoes and sunglasses, and bring a scarf or bandana for your face (often sold on site for a few euros); the team provides goggles if needed.
  • The route is a guide only: the organiser says so themselves – the details are indicative and the route may change depending on the day’s conditions (weather, roadworks, traffic). The format of the tour (length, stops, overall feel) stays the same.

Did you know?

The goat’s cheese you taste on the tour isn’t just any cheese: “queso majorero” has held Protected Designation of Origin (Denominación de Origen Protegida) status since 1996. It’s made exclusively from the milk of Majorera goats, a breed native to Fuerteventura and perfectly suited to the island’s arid climate!

Fuerteventura buggy tour FAQ

How does a buggy tour work on the day?

You’re picked up from your hotel in Caleta de Fuste or Costa de Antigua (the return to your hotel isn’t included). After a safety briefing, you set off in a guided convoy at your own pace, on a route that’s roughly 50% road and 50% off-road, through the interior, old Majorero villages and on to the Las Salinas salt flats. Allow about 3 hours in total; the exact route may be adjusted depending on the day’s conditions.

Wear closed shoes (compulsory), sunglasses and comfortable clothes suited to the heat. As part of the route is off-road and dusty, a scarf or bandana for your face is a good idea (often sold on site for a few euros); the team provides goggles if needed. And don’t forget your driving licence if you’re driving.

Safety comes first. In case of strong winds or bad weather, the tour can be moved or cancelled at no cost. For the rules on rescheduling, refunds and convoy safety, you’ll find everything in our article on buggy cancellations, weather and safety.

Even though these vehicles are built for off-road driving, they’re very easy to get the hang of (they’re automatic). You just need to follow the guide’s instructions and keep your distance in the convoy. To get a feel for the vehicle before you climb in, have a look at our practical tips on driving a buggy.

Children can come along as passengers from age 4, within the total weight limit per buggy (200 kg, driver + passenger). The activity isn’t recommended for pregnant women or people with serious back problems, because of the bumps on the off-road tracks. To check whether the tour suits the whole family, read our advice on buggy access rules for children and contraindications.
