Meet Carole and Her Passion for Upcycling in Fuerteventura

When it comes to creative reuse, Carole is an inspiring figure in Fuerteventura. A kitesurfing enthusiast, she turns old kite sails into unique, durable bags through her brand “Bolsaloca”.

WHO IS Carole?

Self-taught and committed.

Originally from France, Carole settled in Fuerteventura, where she combines her love of the ocean with her passion for recycling. Her workshop is in the charming coastal village of El Cotillo, known for its white-sand beaches and crystal-clear water. Carole is dedicated to the environmental cause and to creating unique products that tell a story of adventure and sustainability.

Why Recycle Kite Sails?

The textile industry is one of the most polluting in the world. Carole believes in upcycling to minimise environmental impact. By recycling used kitesurfing sails, she reduces marine waste while creating products that are both practical and good-looking. Her creations aren’t just eco-friendly – they’re one-of-a-kind and functional, adding a touch of originality and colour to your wardrobe.

How Are the Bags Made?

It takes time – a looooot of time…

Every bag is handmade in her workshop in El Cotillo. Carole collects used kitesurfing sails, cleans them and cuts them to create sturdy, stylish bags. She also makes clothing and accessories, as well as custom nautical jewellery for men, women and children. Every piece is unique, lightweight, tough and has a story to tell.
