No booking needed for this one. The entrance is <a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/XhQDVbpiQuhLVtRw6\"><em>here<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Or you take the <strong>&#8220;Ins\u00f3lita&#8221; tour<\/strong>, which goes a bit further, with a short photo stop outside the bus, and ends with a little snack cooked using the volcano&#8217;s heat and a drink <strong>made in Lanzarote<\/strong>, of course!<\/p>\n<p>This one needs booking \u2013 here&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/ventaonline.cactlanzarote.com\/fr\/experiences\/insolita-montana-billet\"><em>the link to the official website<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Either way, try to <strong>sit on the right-hand side of the bus<\/strong> (the passenger side) for the best views. The car park is <a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/cjgLDEnRaAhwKFZ36\"><em>here<\/em><\/a>, then it&#8217;s just a few minutes&#8217; walk.<\/p>\n<h5><strong> Los Hervideros<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Lava flows frozen into cliffs, <strong>where the ocean crashes in with a roar.<\/strong><br \/>You can walk along the edge of the crevices and hear the sea rumbling in the caves below.<br \/>Simple, wild, spectacular. Nestled in Los Ajaches nature reserve, this turquoise cove is also steeped in history: this is where the first diocese of the Canaries was established at the time of the conquest. Today, Papagayo is loved by families and sun-worshippers alike.<\/p>\n<h6><strong>Getting there<\/strong>:<\/h6>\n<p>You reach it via a <strong>dirt track<\/strong>, but there&#8217;s <strong>no need for a 4&#215;4<\/strong>. Any vehicle can make it, <strong>as long as you drive at a sensible speed<\/strong>. There are a few potholes and bumps, so no point driving as if you were on tarmac. Take it easy and you&#8217;ll be fine. The car parks are <a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/C5my3pQdwQPHFDEZ9\"><em>here<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<h5><strong> Playa Quemada<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>If you haven&#8217;t explored it yet, take a proper break here: a swim from a black pebble beach, a little coastal path \u2013 including an interesting hike called the &#8220;Secret Garden&#8221; (more info <a href=\"https:\/\/www.komoot.com\/highlight\/130130\"><em>here<\/em><\/a>) \u2013 and peaceful caf\u00e9s.<\/p>\n<h5><strong> Salinas de Janubio<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Slightly off the beaten track, these traditional salt pans form <strong>a colourful patchwork by the sea.<\/strong> A lovely view at sunset, or just before if you&#8217;re in the area. In my opinion the paid tour isn&#8217;t really worth it, but that&#8217;s a matter of taste (and of ticket prices that are a bit salty!). Locals even say it&#8217;s haunted, given its grim past. And for good reason: it&#8217;s known as <strong>the House of the Sisters of Silence<\/strong>. This is where the infamous <strong>Cruz sisters crime<\/strong> took place in 1919. The crossing takes about <strong>25 minutes<\/strong>, with regular sailings throughout the day.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s no real need to book ahead, except perhaps to save a few euros by booking online.<\/p>\n<p><strong> Once you&#8217;re there&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<h6><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Walk to Playa Francesa<\/strong>:<\/span><\/h6>\n<p>45 minutes on foot or 15 minutes by bike to one of the island&#8217;s most beautiful beaches. Pale sand, turquoise water, and very often&#8230; nobody. The beach is <a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/6nRVEhJQy4P3fJUR7\"><em>here.<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<h6><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Rent a bike<\/strong>:<\/span><\/h6>\n<p>it&#8217;s a very popular way to get around the island. <strong>Bear in mind, though,<\/strong> that most tracks are sandy, which makes pedalling hard work, so an e-bike is <strong>highly recommended<\/strong>. At peak times there can also be quite a few 4&#215;4 taxis (more on those below) on the main tracks. They&#8217;ll overtake you regularly, kicking up a cloud of dust&#8230; Yes, it&#8217;s a car-free island, but not a taxi-free one! They&#8217;re <a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/sTfyqDZv2eJHgAZH8\"><em>here<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Lanzaloe<\/strong>:<\/h5>\n<p>a centre dedicated to Lanzarote&#8217;s organic aloe vera, with a shop, <strong>self-guided visit<\/strong> and cactus garden. A nice little local stop that tourists often miss. <strong>Tell them I sent you<\/strong> and they may have a little gift for you!
