Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, 30 November 2023<\/em><\/span> \u2014 A team of gastronomic archaeologists has set out on a daring quest to uncover the Canary Islands’ forgotten traditional dish<\/strong>. This culinary epic spans the islands of Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria and Tenerife, in the hope of revealing an ancestral meal that may have shaped the palates of the ancient Canarians.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The digs began on Lanzarote, where tantalising clues were found in an ancient prehistoric restaurant in a cave not far from Jameos del Agua. Fragments of pottery decorated with mysterious patterns depicting an appetising dish hint at a time when dinner was as much an artistic experience as a culinary one.<\/p>\n

Fuerteventura, famous for its unique flavours, is also at the heart of the quest. The archaeologists hope to find clues about specific preparation techniques and exotic ingredients used in this still-mysterious dish, which may have disappeared over the centuries. An old scroll, nicknamed the “Menu of Antiquity”, has been unearthed, hinting at flavour combinations as surprising as they are delicious \u2013 but it’s still being translated.<\/p>\n

Gran Canaria, with its geographical diversity, has offered some intriguing leads. Fossils of unknown fruits have been discovered, suggesting forgotten recipes. The archaeologist-chefs speculate about a dish that might have been prepared with a touch of volcanic magic.<\/p>\n

Finally, Tenerife, famous for its rich culinary heritage, has revealed artefacts suggesting a sophisticated cuisine dating back to the Stone Age. The digs are focused on finding an iconic dish that might have been served at tribal feasts or special ceremonies.<\/p>\n

Local restaurateurs are delighted with the initiative, hoping the rediscovery of these ancient dishes will boost the Canarian food industry. Some are already planning to add modern twists to these historic recipes to create a unique dining experience.<\/p>\n

As the team continues its culinary exploration across the islands, hopes are high that a lost traditional dish will be brought back to life, giving Canarian cuisine a flavour that’s both new and ancient.<\/p>\n

However, as the team of gastronomic archaeologists delved deeper into the culinary mysteries of the Canary Islands, a hilarious discovery emerged. Between digs, the researchers uncovered an inscription carved into an old chopping board that read: “Paella was invented here \u2013 look no further!”<\/p>\n

Disbelief spread among the archaeologists, who at first took it as one of history’s little jokes. But the comical clues were undeniable: wing prints on clay pans, cooking notes written with bustard feathers, and even evidence of paella contests between local tribes.<\/p>\n

Dr Plumage, the chief archaeologist, commented with a wry smile: “It’s a revelation, feathers and all!<\/p>\n

Our Canarian ancestors were clearly masters of cooking, and paella was their culinary crown jewel. We’ve all been searching for something that was right under our noses \u2013 or rather, under our wings!”<\/p>\n

Humour and surprise reigned supreme as the Canaries, never short of surprises, now declare themselves the official birthplace of paella, with a nod to the archipelago’s prehistoric past.
