Teide, nature’s comedian, always seems to be competing with the locals to see who can put on the most dazzling show. Sometimes it puffs out smoke with such style you’d think it was rehearsing its own stand-up routine. It’s as if the lava were really cooled-down tears of laughter, ready to erupt in a volcano of good cheer.<\/p>\n

Yet despite this comic rivalry, the Tinerfe\u00f1os and Teide live in perfect harmony, sharing the same off-the-wall sense of humour. Some even claim Teide has a secret collection of slogan T-shirts hidden deep in its craters. After all, when you’re the resident volcano on the island of laughter, humour is the best way to blend into the landscape.<\/p>\n

In Masca, the village tucked between the mountains, everyday life looks like a never-ending parade. The locals have developed a secret skill: the spontaneous catwalk. The winding lanes are the perfect runway for an impromptu fashion show, where even the goats seem to join in with natural elegance. You could almost believe they’re secretly training to become the world’s most unflappable models.<\/p>\n

Tenerife Carnival is when the locals unveil their wackiest costumes. From aliens dancing with tropical plants to mermaids so well disguised they start doubting their own identity, Carnival is a fancy-dress contest where everyone wins \u2013 except, perhaps, logic. Some even wonder whether the locals turn into unicorns to do their food shopping \u2013 after all, it’s hard to compete with a unicorn at the supermarket checkout.<\/p>\n

The costume contests are a test of imagination, with participants battling for the biggest feathers, the most dazzling sequins and, sometimes, the most bonkers ideas. There’s always someone who takes the Carnival theme a bit too seriously and turns up dressed as a ham sandwich \u2013 because nothing beats the glamour of a slice of ham between two slices of bread.<\/p>\n

But Tenerife Carnival wouldn’t be complete without its floats, true works of art on wheels. Picture a giant pink flamingo fighting a cuddly dragon for the last slice of pizza. That’s the kind of show Carnival has in store, where creativity runs wild and absurdity reigns supreme.<\/p>\n

In short, the people of Tenerife juggle Teide’s eruptions of laughter, spontaneous catwalks in Masca and costumes weirder than the latest season of a hit series. In this comic ecosystem, life is one long party, and the Tinerfe\u00f1os are the masters of ceremonies of joyful absurdity.
